Ultrasound Gel Injection
Dr. Shreder is an expert in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound having performed over 10,000 ultrasound guided procedures and has been a physician trainer in musculoskeletal ultrasound medicine. Ultrasound guarantees EXACT placement of the needle. It helps patients understand what the cause of their pain looks like.
Most of our injections are performed under ultrasound guidance to get a look inside the body to see the underlying anatomy and to ensure proper placement of the needle. This will ensure effective therapy and usually is less painful than non-ultrasound guided injections.
Ultrasound can be used in the office to diagnose:
- Degenerative joint disease
- Baker’s cyst
- Muscle tears
- Bone spurs
- Superficial tumors
- Foreign bodies
- Cysts vs solid tumors
It has been used in our office to save lives by helping to diagnose lymphoma, and thyroid cancer as well as gallstones!
When you are in pain and are not sure why sometimes you do not want to wait a couple days for your insurance to approve an MRI, we can take a look in the office and have an idea what is going on right then. While we will still want an official MRI result we can have an initial diagnosis and make sure we order the best imaging test possible based on our in office findings.
Another great advantage to ultrasound is being able to put the patient through a range of motion while getting a “live feed” of what the body anatomy looks likes. Sometimes while lying on a table the problems cannot be seem clearly on an MRI. We have had occasions where our ultrasound diagnosis of a partial tendon tear has gotten the patient the care then needed when it was not diagnosed by other means.
